The adventure crew. Some box toboggans. Lots of snow. Last January's fun pastime has yet to begin, but Hedgie, Fuzzy, and Ozzie have their sleds polished and ready. In the meantime, they have a cozy wood stove and lots of places to sit and plan out over 350 days of fun activities... and that's exactly what Hedgie, Douglas, Corrs, and Weylan have been doing. There's always winter hobbies too. Douglas enjoys making warm hats and clothing for friends. Hedgie thinks ahead to his garden plans for the spring. Corrs has already mapped out places to try out his new riding hat. Weylan has been researching new promotional items as well as international twists on local ingredients. And they all have been enjoying the quiet, sunny mornings that have carried us into the winter season. Take a peek at all of the above as well as upcoming items on the agenda for the next few months. Whether you are welcoming the new year with sledding weather or swimming weather, have fun while doing so! Share the warmth of a hatDouglas Furr has been a long time, part time hat creator (of underground prestige), spending his winter free time engrossed in his cold weather hobby. His friends become better dressed each year as he dishes up both new and classic styles of head gear and even the occasional sweater or scarf. The latest recipient of Douglas' generosity is Spot, a baby sloth who was viciously attacked by a dog on Christmas day. To help lift his spirits and keep him warm during his recovery, Douglas made Spot not only a custom hat but a reversible sweater as well. Spot is doing quite well post-surgery (injuries on head and both arms) and has his very own chair for watching occasional TV programs. The attack also left him without vocal abilities but he is a very good listener and enjoys reading a book over your shoulder. He will be learning basic sign language in the future to supplement his telepathic communications, as he can be a bit slow in forming his entire thought (when he says "grill" and you think he wants to cook on the grill but sixteen minutes later you realize it's really "grilled cheese and soup" that he wants...). Pictured with Spot is a penguin who can certainly commiserate on the subject of dog attacks. Found in need of help during a busy holiday season of years past, he has happily made himself at home in the adventure crew's landing pad (usually as far away from the wood stove as possible). Although his animal attack incident resulted in very minor injuries, this Penguin was rescued from any future violence by way of a secret transport interception and his true identity remains anonymous for his safety. Penguin can be found sporting one of Douglas' most iconic hats from two winters ago. Don't be surprised if Douglas shares a winter accessory D.I.Y. in the near future... Where's Weylan?Weylan's been dabbling in some experimental marketing and swag. He landed himself on a shirt and couldn't be more pleased with himself. Not too shabby Weylan, you're looking darn good. What else would you like to see Weylan and the crew on? Send him an email: [email protected] Planning aheadThis year, Hedgie would like to plan out and plant a pumpkin patch. There are a few things to consider when doing this. First, you need plenty of space for vines to wander. You also need plenty of sun. Of course, you mustn't forget that deer love to eat the flowers off pumpkins, and pumpkin flowers turn into... yes, pumpkins. We aren't sure exactly where Hedgie is preparing to build his garden fortress, but it is bound to be quite a project. Good thing he started his planning early! The excerpt and picture above are part of a story involving Hedgie and his longtime friends, but we can't talk about it yet... perhaps this year. However, there is another story about Hedgie and a very special pumpkin, which involves Douglas and will hopefully be available for reading by this fall. New year, new hat
