Look out, sleds coming through!Winter is here and so is Issue #8 of The Picketwire, fresh out of the cold and ready to warm your mind with tales of talking cars and junkyard bears. Have a winter picnic with Penelope, make a snowman with Douglas Furr, do some sledding with the Littles, and don't forget to grab a hot cocoa and stroll along with the Twigmin and Leif holiday tree tour. When you're ready to hunker down, get cozy with The Twins and enjoy the Possum Nook double feature all about Tanzi and her Impala. 24 pages of good vibes and good tidings will keep you smiling through the new year! Let's start off with a poem... The front cover of Issue #8 is a big photo of some small hedgehogs. Really small. Really, really small. They are using a penny and a button for sleds. But these two dare devils don't let their small size get in the way of big goals. Read "Paddle Twice" and be inspired to shove off and follow your dreams. I've got a button, you've got a penny We can carve this hill as good as any It's quite a drop but let's be brave We'll show them that we're not afraid Shove off hard and paddle twice We're at the mercy of the ice We'll keep our course with any luck Facing forward, right side up Catching speed, a snowy thrill! We're flying faster down the hill Will we stop before the trees? I hope we do, oh pretty please Just our luck, a patch of grass It's coming up, and coming fast Brace yourself for sudden braking Or a tumble we'll be surely taking Safe and sound, we've made our run Our sledding feat was so much fun! We've proved that even if you're small You might be the bravest one of all Sometimes we're scared to do the things That give us joy and make us sing Don't hesitate, don't ask advice Just shove off hard and paddle twice.
